How to properly install Windows 10 from a disk. How to install Windows directly from a hard drive using different methods? Reducing the main partition using Minitool Partition Wizard

Operating system Microsoft Windows 10, you can install it on your computer (laptop) from a DVD or installation flash drive. Carefully read the detailed instructions about clean installing Windows 10 via BIOS. To install, we will need a Windows 10 distribution on a DVD or USB flash drive.

Attention! Before installing any edition of Windows 10, you must ensure that you purchase License Keys, and there should be no problems activating the license. You use all cracks, activators and hacking programs in violation of the license rules. Microsoft products are protected by copyright law.

This means that the copyright holder retains exclusive rights to the software. To purchase a product, you must agree to the terms of the license (which leads to the acquisition of a number of limited rights by the person purchasing the product) under which the software is distributed (“buy license”)

Step-by-step guide for installing the Microsoft Windows 10 operating system from a disk or flash drive.

  • 1 — Before installing any operating system on a computer/laptop, it is important to know the basic rules —.
  • 2 — Insert the Windows 10 distribution disc into the DVD drive or a prepared bootable USB flash drive into the USB port.
  • 3 - Let's go to BIOS. Read the instructions - .
  • 4 — Our task is to ensure that after a reboot, the computer does not boot from the hard drive as usual, but from the boot device that you are currently using.
  • 5 - The first window after downloading the Windows 10 installer (Fig. 1). You will need to select the installation language and system and click the button Further.

  • 10 Custom: Windows installation only (for advanced users). (Fig.6)

Fig.6
  • 11 - Next stage - . To install as in our example, you should delete all your partitions, one at a time. It will work out Unallocated disk space(Fig.7). This should be done if you do not have the necessary information on your hard drive, or if you worried about this in advance and copied all the necessary information (photos, documents, programs, etc.), for example, to a flash drive. Or, of course, you can delete all partitions except drive D, where you have all your information, here you will be guided by size, drive D, as a rule, there is always more. To avoid mistakes, you need to remember the sizes of all disks before rearranging the system.

Fig.7
  • 12 - Let's dwell on our example. Mark the unallocated space on the disk (Fig. 8)

Fig.8
  • 13 - In our example, the entire volume of our hard drive is 100 Gigabytes and kopecks (Fig. 9), we mark in the area Size, approximately 60 Gigabytes (Fig. 9). This is quite enough for a Windows 10 system for a hard drive of the size we have. You may have a hard drive of a different size, but do not assign it to partition C, less than 50-60 GB. If you have a HDD of 500 gigabytes or more in size, the best option would be to allocate 90-100 GB for the C partition. You don’t need more, this is not necessary, but you shouldn’t do exactly 25 GB. This size is needed only for the system itself, but in addition to the system, you will install other programs you need, for example Office, on drive C in the future. Therefore, do not skimp, and allocate at least 60 GB for the C-Disk. And allocate the remaining gigabytes to drive D.

Another option - If you already have a system, simply delete the first and second partition so that you are left with a 3-partition, which is the D drive. Deleted partitions 1 and 2 are converted to unallocated space, then select, and without changing the values in the area - Size, click Create.

  • 15 - As we see (Fig. 11), we have created sections 1 and 2. Partition 1 is reserved by the system, and Partition Two is our C drive, where we will install Windows 10.

Microsoft has made sure that the question of how to install Windows 10 causes as little difficulty as possible among users. Moreover, the developers even made this process absolutely free, even for those who do not have a key. On this page we will introduce you to all installation methods, and also tell you where to get the distribution.

All methods can be divided into two large groups - installation from scratch or migration from the previous generation of the operating system. There are 3 approaches for these operations:

  • Through the Update Center;
  • Using the command line;
  • Or using special tools;

First of all, you need to choose a path. The first two are available if you are currently running Windows 7 or 8 of any generation. In this case, if you have not disabled regular and scheduled updates, you have probably already seen a similar picture:

Until the updates are installed, you will not see this message. Next, you need to click on the message that the system has loaded the new OS and is ready for installation. And you will find yourself in a window like this:

After clicking on the “Continue” button, you will find yourself in the update center, where you only have to click one “Get Started” button.

After this, the PC will update itself. Moreover, all processes occur automatically and in the background. You don't need to do anything extra. When 10 is installed, the computer will prompt you to reboot, which can be done not immediately, but delayed a little. The next time you boot you will have a new OS. If you don't like it, you can roll back to your previous version. If everything is fine, then it is advisable to delete the Windows.old folder, because it takes up a lot of space.

Installing 10 via the command line

This method is also for those who are already running one of the latest versions of the OS. It happens that the method described above is not suitable. The first thing you should definitely do is turn on “Automatic Updates”. Without this step, everything described below will not help you solve the problem. Moreover, the settings should look like this:

Check, if everything is so, then use the WIN+R key combination to call up the executive environment and enter cmd, and then the command - wuauclt.exe/updatenow + press Enter.

After this, the download will begin. You can check this in the update center, where you will see the beginning of this process.

As in the first case, here the download will also be in the background, you just need to wait for it to complete and then follow the instructions on the screen, reboot and get the updated OS.

2 options above are only for those who already have another OS installed. If you bought a new device or want to upgrade to 10 from scratch, then you need instructions on how to install Windows 10 for free from scratch. The easiest option is to buy installation media. It is sold on a flash drive, but is quite expensive, so you can make it yourself, which will save you several thousand rubles. To do this you will need:

  • Another computer that is already working;
  • Utility ;

We launch the software on the computer, and in the first window select “Create installation media for another computer.”

You can either immediately create media or download an ISO image of the system and mount it later in any way convenient for you.

A USB device is the simplest method that does not require additional actions later. Therefore, let's dwell on it. Please note that the media itself must already be in the slot on your PC. The capacity of the flash drive is at least 4 GB. You can select the flash drive itself at the next stage, if you suddenly have several connected.

After this, you can forget about this utility for a while and go about your business. Again, it will download the necessary files in the background and mount the image itself. The time for this process depends on the speed of your Internet as well as the speed of your computer.

As a rule, this will take from 20 to 90 minutes. The process of creating an installation flash drive is shown in more detail in the video:

Installation process from scratch

Everything described above was preparation. Next, the installation itself begins. Before doing this, make sure that there is no information you need left on your hard drive. Windows 10 definitely requires formatted media. If the information is there, but you don’t need it, then it’s okay, during the installation process you can format the drive and continue the process as if it were empty.

The first step is to change the boot order of your devices. To do this, go to the BIOS section BOOT. You can get into the Bios when you restart your computer by pressing the DEL or F2 button. You must connect the USB flash drive and assign it to boot first. Save changes and reboot. In this case, the PC will start working with the installer, and you will see the following window:

If at the time of creating the bootable media you selected Russian and the Single Language option, then at this stage you will no longer be able to change the settings. We click on the next button and find ourselves on a new screen where there is only one button - “INSTALL”. Below there is a separate item -, but it is not interesting to us. Click on installation.

At this stage, the OS will already ask you for the key. For some, it will be automatically detected, as it is built into the BIOS. If it is not defined, then enter it manually. For those who do not have a key, you can click on the “Skip” button and return to the activation issue later.

You will see the "License Agreement". Read it, check the box next to the phrase that you accept the rules and click the “Next” button.

The final steps separate you from the beginning of the installation. On the newly opened window, you need to select the "Custom" item.

In this case, you will be able to choose the hard drive on which the OS will be installed. If information is stored on the disk, then it will have to be formatted. All this can be done within one window, it is shown below.

For those who have several partitions, we will clarify that the OS requires at least 50 GB. Even taking into account that it itself only takes up 4 GB on a flash drive, after unpacking it will require more space, including for normal operation. And you should not touch, delete, merge or carry out any other actions with other partitions, especially small ones - 100-500 MB. They are technical, and are required for the correct operation of the entire PC.

After these steps, Windows 10 will begin to install. This will take time, but the process can be monitored by a progressive number of percentages.

When it's all over, a series of questions awaits you. The first will be the license issue. You can skip it again. Those who have already entered the code for this question will no longer see it.

In the next step, you will be able to configure the work settings. Even if you don't want to deal with them, we recommend not using the standard ones. The OS collects important information that does not need to be shared. All this can be disabled at this stage.

Then proceed to create an account. Determine who owns the PC - you or the system administrator. The latter is found only in organizations, which is why the answer “I” is the most common.

Hello friends! My name is Vladimir and today I propose to install Windows 10 on a portable USB hard drive, I assure you, it is very easy, to achieve the goal we will need an ISO image of Windows 10 and the WinNTSetup3 program, and of course a little of your patience.

No one will argue that a portable USB hard drive looks much more convenient to use than a regular standard HDD, because you can quickly disconnect it from your computer and connect it to another machine. The situation is completely different with a regular HDD; first you need to turn off the computer, disconnect the side cover of the system unit, then disconnect the cables, unscrew the screws securing the hard drive to a special basket. To connect the HDD to another computer, you need to do the same thing, only in reverse. Moreover, if you need to connect a regular HDD to a laptop, you won’t be able to do it without a special adapter.

That is why a portable USB hard drive has long become our permanent attribute of life, just like a flash drive. By the way, a regular flash drive can also be successfully replaced with a portable HDD, which is exactly what we did in the previous article.

After reading this article, many users have a question: is it possible to install the operating system on a portable hard drive, since Windows does not support installation on USB drives?

Reader questions:

  1. I want to install Win 10 on my laptop as a second system, but after disconnecting the unallocated space from the C: drive and creating a D: drive, the laptop stopped booting and I had to roll back to factory settings. How to install Win 10 on a portable USB HDD?
  2. I'm afraid to install a second operating system on the hard drive of my laptop, since I will have to divide the HDD into partitions, but I want to try Windows 10. Are there ways to install Windows 10 on a portable USB hard drive other than ?
  3. When installing Windows 10 on a portable USB hard drive, an error appears:Installation on this disk is not possible. The installer does not support disk configuration or installation on disks that are connected via USB or IEEE 1394 ports. Why?

Hello dear user! In this article, you will learn. Updates scare everyone, but are they as difficult and harmful as they are said to be?! Let's figure it out with Windows 10 - perhaps you recently realized that you want to install a new operating system!

Why install Windows 10:

Any update improves the system,
Smart people worked on the new Windows - they know exactly what they are doing,
New hardware, third-party software, drivers, programs are optimized for the latest build of Windows.
You will receive many innovations, perhaps one day you will need them.

How to do this - let's take a closer look at how to install Windows 10 if:

You already have Windows XP, VISTA, maybe even Windows 7,
You have a new PC or laptop without an operating system,
Nothing works for you, but the operating system was once installed until you went to “that” site.
You don't understand why you should install Windows at all, because you have MAC OS.

So let's get started!

You already have Windows XP, VISTA or Windows 7, 8.

If you have Windows XP or VISTA, then, unfortunately, you won’t be able to upgrade to Windows 10 while saving and transferring data; we’ll look at how to do this on Windows 7 or 8 later.
After all, you have XP or Vista - save your photos and everything else on a flash drive or external HD and log in here. Check your PC or laptop with the minimum system requirements for installing Windows 10 and draw your own conclusions. If your PC is not that old, then read below.

Installation using Windows 10 installation disc:

If you purchased a CD with a copy of Windows 10, then you need:

1) Restart your PC or laptop, if the BIOS login window does not appear, most likely you have “fast boot”, you need to disable it through the Control Panel / power options / action of the power buttons / change parameters that are currently unavailable / enable quick startup (uncheck it) .

2) To enter the BIOS or UEFI of the motherboard by pressing the Delete button on the keyboard, in order not to miss the BIOS entry window, it is recommended to press the button repeatedly immediately after restarting the PC or laptop. If you have a laptop, then there may be problems. The fact is that on laptops from different manufacturers, the login conditions may differ; even for the same manufacturer, on different models, the login parameters often differ. Do not be afraid, see the list below and look for your brand.

ASUS – F1, DEL
DELL – F1, F2, F3, Fn+F1
Lenovo – F2, F12, Del
HP – F1, F2, F10
Sony – F2, F3
Acer – F1,F2, Del
Samsung – F1, F2, F8, F12, Del
Toshiba – ESC, F1

3) Change the system boot parameters, set boot priority from CD or DVD-ROM, if you have an old PC or laptop, then it looks like this:

You need to go to the First Boot Device tab, it can be called Boot or Boot Device and set to boot from CDROM or DVDROM, depending on what drive is on your PC, usually DVDROM.
If you have a more or less new PC and its motherboard contains UEFI, then it looks like this:

Different manufacturers create different UEFI interfaces, in this case we see Gigabyte’s version, don’t be scared, despite the different graphics, just find the “Boot Options” directory and set boot from CD (DVD) ROM by default. Next, save the settings, insert the disk into the drive, press F10 (Save and Exit) or go to the Exit tab and exit saving the settings.
If everything worked out, the PC or laptop will start loading from the DVD ROM, and the message “” will appear on the black screen Press any key to boot from CD or DVD”, press the Enter or F8 key, then you just need to follow the Windows 10 installation guide.

4) Install Windows 10, following the installation guide, format the hard drive and, if desired, partition it.

So, you are left with the last stage, what does it look like? If you did everything correctly, the Windows 10 installer will start working, you will see a window like this. Select Russian language, input method and click next.

Then in the next window click INSTALL:

If you don't have a key or want to enter it later, you can purchase it on the Microsoft website, then click skip. In the next window, put a tick with the mouse and accept the license terms, click next.
In the next window, read the two tabs and remember that your OS does not support upgrading to Windows 10, select “Custom: Windows installation only.”

Now we come to the main point, after selecting the installation type, a window will open to format hard drives and select the installation location for Windows 10.

In our case, it is necessary to format the “main” partition on which XP or Vista was installed. If desired, if the hard drive is divided into 2 or more partitions, you can delete them and leave one partition on which the new Windows OS will be installed. It is recommended to create or leave all partitions except the main one, provided that the hard drive capacity exceeds 320 GB. After editing the hard drive partitions, you must click next, after which the Windows installation process will begin.

5) After unpacking and installing the files and rebooting the PC, it is advisable to select the “use standard settings” item in the OS settings. After that, exciting days of operating Windows 10 await you. If your computer has not switched to booting from the hard drive, you need to enter the BIOS again and return the boot priority from the HDD or SSD, hard drive, reboot and use Windows 10.

Installing Windows 10 using a USB flash drive:

Let's consider another situation: you want to install Windows 10, you don't have a disk, and you're not going to buy one. There is another way, take out your flash drive and read below.
So, you will need a flash drive and an active computer; in our case, we will consider the option of working OS XP or VISTA.

Insert the flash drive into the connector of your PC or laptop and log in here. This link is to the official Microsoft website. Here it is worth remembering Windows 7 or Windows 8.1, download the OS update tool to Windows 10, and you can update the system while saving settings and files, unless of course you already have Windows 7 or 8, you also need to take into account that the free update is no longer valid, so you may need a license key.
Let's return to our situation: you need to download a ready-made image* of Windows 10 from the developer’s website or another site. Come in here and click download the tool now.

After downloading, right-click on the downloaded file and select run as administrator. Accept the terms of the license agreement and on the “what do you want to do” page, select “Create installation media for another computer”, click next.

Select the required media:
USB device
ISO file

If you burned an ISO image, then you need to repeat the steps described in steps 1,2,3 of installation using the Windows 10 installation disk.

If for some reason you were unable to burn an ISO file through the installation tool, then this can be done using any image creation program, such as: Windows USB/DVD Tool, DAEMON Tools, UltraISO, etc.
The program must be downloaded, installed and used to burn the downloaded ISO image to a flash drive or DVD.

You have a new PC or laptop without an operating system

If you bought a new PC or laptop without an operating system, you can either install Windows 10 from the disk, in the same order as in points 1,2,3, etc., or, if you have a second PC or access to a neighbor’s computer, 10 use his computer and install in the same order from a flash drive or DVD drive .

Nothing works for you, but the operating system was once installed until you went to “that” site.

If your PC or laptop is in working condition and the BIOS loads, install Windows 10 in the same order.

Successful operation of Windows OS, dear user, see you again!
